Project Background
Belleville Wix Academy, part of the Quality First Education Trust, required a comprehensive programme of remedial works to address a range of issues affecting the external building fabric and internal areas of the school. Over time, sections of masonry had deteriorated, creating the potential for elements of brickwork and stonework to become loose, while areas of damp ingress had resulted in the need for internal repairs.
Inspire Contract Services were appointed to undertake the works, with a full-time non-working site manager overseeing the project to ensure safe coordination and quality control throughout the programme. Given the school’s busy educational environment, careful planning and communication were essential to minimise disruption while maintaining the highest standards of safety.
The project involved a comprehensive programme of building fabric repairs and refurbishment works across the school. This included extensive masonry repairs, façade cleaning, damp remediation works and waterproofing improvements designed to protect and preserve the existing buildings. Inspire also designed, supplied and installed two new canopies, enhancing the functionality and appearance of key access areas throughout the site.
The Works
The scope of works included a range of external and internal refurbishment activities designed to address both structural deterioration and water ingress issues. All works were carefully coordinated and phased to ensure the school remained fully operational throughout the programme. Full-time site management was provided throughout the works:
Waterproofing & Building Improvements
- Internal remedial works to areas affected by damp ingress.
- Application of liquid waterproof coating to roof-level gutters.
- Design, supply and installation of two new canopies.
- Making good works associated with damp remediation.
Masonry & Facade Repairs
- Extensive brickwork replacement works.
- Repointing to deteriorated mortar joints.
- Localised stone repairs.
- Chemical cleaning of external elevations.
- DOFF cleaning to sensitive masonry areas.
The Result
The completed project has significantly improved the condition, safety and appearance of the school buildings. Extensive brickwork, stonework and repointing repairs have stabilised the external fabric, helping to eliminate the risk of loose masonry while preserving the character and integrity of the existing structures.
The chemical and DOFF cleaning works have revitalised the appearance of the elevations, while the liquid-applied gutter waterproofing system provides enhanced protection against water ingress and supports the long-term performance of the building envelope. Internal remedial works have addressed areas affected by damp, creating a more comfortable and resilient environment for building users.
The installation of two new canopies has further enhanced the functionality of the site, providing practical weather protection for staff, students and visitors.
With a dedicated full-time site manager overseeing the programme, Inspire ensured that all works were delivered safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to the school’s day-to-day activities. The project successfully combines building preservation, safety improvements and aesthetic enhancement, providing Belleville Wix Academy with a durable and sustainable solution for the future.
