Project Background
Following severe storm conditions, one of the external façade panels to the Performance Hall at Langley Park School for Boys became dislodged and fell from the building. Subsequent investigations identified that the existing render panel system and insulation had not been installed correctly, leaving further sections of the façade at risk of failure and requiring immediate remedial action to ensure the safety of staff, students and visitors.
Inspire Contract Services were appointed to undertake the replacement of the defective cladding system, working closely with the school to develop a robust solution that would not only eliminate the safety risk but also enhance the appearance of the building.
Given the works were undertaken within a fully operational school, careful planning, strict health and safety procedures and close coordination with the client were essential throughout the project. All operatives were also required to hold enhanced DBS clearance.
The replacement system was selected to provide a durable, low-maintenance façade while closely matching the school’s existing colour scheme, ensuring the refurbished elevation complemented the surrounding buildings and maintained the school’s visual identity.
The Works
The works were completed using Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) operated by IPAF-trained operatives, allowing the façade replacement to be carried out safely and efficiently. The project involved the complete replacement of the failed façade system to the Performance Hall building. Works included:
- Removal of the existing defective render panel system and insulation.
- Exposure and inspection of the existing support framework.
- Installation of a new Kingspan KS1000 Micro-Rib insulated panel system, incorporating 45mm insulated panels.
- Installation of Kingspan Micro-Rib XL Forte panels in Red Brown, carefully selected in collaboration with the school to match its existing colour palette.
- Installation of all associated flashings, trims, top hats and finishing details to complete the façade system.
- Removal and reinstatement of the existing school name lettering.
- Manufacture and installation of a new school crest/logo.
The Result
The completed project has provided Langley Park School for Boys with a modern, durable and fully compliant external façade system, eliminating the safety concerns associated with the original installation while significantly improving the appearance of the Performance Hall building.
The new Kingspan insulated cladding system offers enhanced durability, weather resistance and long-term performance, while the carefully selected Red Brown finish successfully complements the school’s existing architecture and preserves its established identity. The reinstatement of the school’s lettering and the installation of a new crest ensured the refurbished façade retained its prominent visual presence.
Working within a live educational environment required meticulous planning and close collaboration with the school to ensure disruption was kept to an absolute minimum. By utilising IPAF-trained operatives, carefully managed MEWP access and robust site safety procedures, Inspire successfully delivered the project safely and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality throughout.
This project demonstrates Inspire’s ability to respond quickly to urgent building safety issues and deliver high-quality façade refurbishment solutions within occupied environments, providing clients with safe, compliant and aesthetically pleasing buildings for the future.
