Project Background
Aylesbury High School for Girls is a well-established secondary school located in Buckinghamshire, providing education within a busy and operational learning environment.
Following a detailed assessment of the building, a number of fire compliance issues were identified, particularly relating to the performance of existing internal door sets and the overall level of fire compartmentation within the school.
Inspire Contract Services were appointed to carry out a comprehensive programme of works to address these issues, improving the internal structural fire resistance of the building and enhancing the safety of pupils, staff and visitors.
Due to the nature of the school environment, careful planning and coordination of the works was required to ensure that disruption to day-to-day activities was kept to a minimum throughout the project.

The Works
The scope of works focused on improving fire compartmentation through the removal and replacement of non-compliant timber door sets across the school:
Removal of non-compliant timber door sets
- Replaced with oak veneer FD30s door sets
- Incorporating 7mm Pyroshield glazing
- Solution also included hardwood fan and side light framework.
Associated Ironmongery – satin stainless steel
- 8 No. Twin Ball Race Hinges
- Push Plate, D Handle & Kick Plate (back & front)
- Cam-Action Door Closer.
The Result
The completed works have significantly improved the fire safety performance of the building, providing effective compartmentation and helping to delay the spread of fire and smoke in the event of an incident.
The upgraded door sets now offer a compliant and reliable solution, contributing to safer means of escape and increased protection for building occupants.
In addition to the safety improvements, the new installations provide a more consistent and durable finish throughout the school, enhancing the overall internal environment while meeting the required fire compliance standards.
